July '08 FIRST FRIDAY

Even though light rains dampened the July 4th First Friday evening, it didn't seem to dampen any spirits. Here's some of the folks enjoying the eveningjust before the rains began.

Choo Choo Charlie was a having a bit for trouble with her ballons this Friday. They kept popping before she finished her sculptures. It certainly kept everyone awake and on their toes!

Yes, I'll admit it. It's my photogenic granddaughter again. But she just happens to be a frequent visitor for First Fridays with her Marmie. The artwork done by the Bambini Family - here painting her face - is absolutely outstanding. Mckayla received compliments everywhere she went. Who knows, maybe she'll start a trend - face painting to match your apparel!

This young man, Colin - if I remember correctly - was so intrigued by the music that he noticed nothing else. He looked as if he were memorizing it!

His mom and dad told me that he's does that with all the music he listens to, but especially loves to watch live performances.

We'll have to wait a few years, but he'll be on American Idol before we know it. Enjoy, Colin.

These young entertainers kept right on singing and enjoying the evening - dampness and all! And they were great. I hope they return on one of our nicer weather evenings!

June '08 FIRST FRIDAY

Book Signings, Wine Tasting, Music, Cars and just plain fun. The heat didn't stop a great evening in downtown, historic Havre de Grace.

Katie Klisavage, whose family owns Washington Street Books, gives a picture-perfect pose to show off her face-painting. She's such a cutey!

Hi, Katie!

Nikki Lang, MD (left) shares her wisdom about eating right in her fiction book, A Novel Diet. She was located outside of Bahoukas Collectibles to sign her books. GO HERE to listen to a brief comment from Dr. Nikki.  David Berry (rt) was aboard the Skipjack MARTHA LEWIS (below) to sign his newly released book, Maryland Skipjacks.

Chelsea Carr (below left) returned to sign her paper doll book, Baltimore Betty, at Washington Street Books.Previous resident Leon Kalas (below rt) was also there to autograph his newly released photography book, Havre de Grace: a photo album. This has been a 7-year labor of love for Leon. It was exciting to see a dream actually in bookstands! Way to go, Leon!

Below is a photo of the area (Washington & Pennington) where the Main Street tent and other exhibitors are located. Across the street is the Main Stage. (see photo farther down this section)

Bobbi Hinman (below left) returned to autograph the second book in her series, titled The Sock Fairy. She's been delighting young children everywhere with The Knot Fairy and this one, I'm certain, will be no different! David Healey (below rt), an area resident, returned to autograph his books including his latest release, Sharp Shooter.

Pampered Paws (below) offered a Pawty for Pooches that, as you can see, was enjoyed my many furrkids! What a great evening to be out and about for everyone.

(Below left), my friend KAL (center) with his friends enjoy the downtown Havre de Grace activities near the Main Stage. While others enjoyed the car show and DaNica that were on Franklin Street. (below rt)

It's always great when the shops are also busy. Distinctive Decor (that's Billee Smith, owner on the left) had a couple hundred visitors during the evening. I have to tell you, those red vases look pretty interesting to me!

Christopher Williams entertained us at the Main Stage (on Washington & Pennington between Amanda's and Treasures by the Bay). He impressed us with his southern-flavored voice that blended so beautifully with his southern acoustic styings on guitar.

And one of the really special items of the June First Friday event was the wine tasting for the new Chambourcin Reserve with grapes from Mt. Felix Manor (grown by Peter and Mary Ianniello - shown below), Havre de Grace, and taken to St. Michael's Winery by the Skipjack MARTHA LEWIS. WE hope to have a few more photos of this event shortly.

May '08 FIRST FRIDAY

The 'first' First Friday of the season was a whopping success offering plenty of activities for everyone PLUS great weather!

Below I want to highlight a young lady I've enjoyed since 2005. Last year her mom and dad made it a point to introduce me to Abigail's sister, Sophia. Sadly, I've lost that photo file. But on the left is Abigail in 2005 truly enjoyin' the music! On the right is beautiful Abigail with her delightful sister Sophia - both having a fun time enjoying everything at First Friday!

Abigail in 2005 enjoying the music on First Friday, Havre de Grace.    Abigail with her 'sister' Sophia in 2008 enjoying First Friday together!

My buddy George was treated to a great birthday party while he worked his corner (Bahoukas Collectibles) during FF. Now that's a celebration!

Below is the line for Face Painting...

and here's the line for the balloon art...

Obviously the kids are looking forward to First Fridays. (Although I think the parents like being 'kids' too!)

Having make-believe fun at First Fridays in Havre de Grace.

If this laughter doesn't shout FUN, then I don't know what would!

Below is the HdGDrama Troop entertaining from the Nifty Fifties program. And I do believe I caught Abigail and Sophia enjoying it. These young people were absolutely exciting! Be sure you catch their program on May 17-18. (See the Featured Attractions page)
